Me and Niks were discussing this a few weeks ago while we were still working out little quirks in the site, and we came up with stuff like this: (which is all I actually remember )

It doesn't have to do with Civ or Junction, but try to keep it somewhere in the realm of sense...

maybe something like CivPlayersAlliance or CivAlliance?

I think the aim is to lose the Civ where possible.

CivJunction is an okay name I think.

CivJunction is a good name, but if DK does plan to move the site, then it might well get confused with the April Fools' Day site (it's very easy to get civjunction.org and civjunction.com mixed up).

I say keep the 'Civ'. This site's still primarily about modding, right? CivAlliance is pretty good, but it does have some of the old 'site-as-a-country' connotations that plagued CivUnited about it.

All good stuff.

The site is primarily about most anything right now... I kind of would prefer names which get rid of "civ" as it sounds like 3000 other websites out there and if you really look hard, you'll see that we have a lot of different kinds of topics here...it might also turn off non civ players, which we don't want. A more neutral name would be great.

I quite like Gaming Junction, but there you go.

The Vanatus is a strange, yet it does sound kind of cool once more people seem to like it. Its in the running.

I guess as far as names go, what exactly do want to accomplish as a site. Is it a modders forum? if its just a generic game forum how do youplan to differentiate from the ones already out there?

This, this is important. If you want to sell a product in an established market, you have to have a USP - a unique selling point. (Well, you don't have to, but it helps.) On the Internet, which is an established market for forums, Civ modding is a USP. Like the Dyson bagless vacuum cleaner. A generic forum, or one about the umbrella of 'gaming' in general, might appeal to quite a few Interneters, but there is a lot of choice out there, and unless this is one of the best gaming forums on the whole 'Net (it isn't), then their interest isn't going to be held. They won't join.

To put it another way: imagine you have two buffet tables at a wedding. One has a little bit of dry salad, a few stale sandwiches, some chewy meat, bruised fruit... basically, some of everything, but not much of it, and not of the finest quality. You'll attract lots of food fans, but they won't stick around. They'll take half a sandwich and leave. The other buffet table has a trough - a trough for goodness's sake - of tasty salad. This table may only attract a few vegetarians and salad enthusaists, but by gum they'll stick around for a while.

I don't really know what the specific focus of this forum is off the top of my head. It depends on what we make of it. Its still developing, so really most things are open.

Well anyway. The forum seems to have kind of pooped out over the past 24 hours, but I take its quite normal when we're still getting off our feet.

Anyone who posts more interesting topics (browse through CU OT or something for ideas) gets big brownie points for the future.

A name always seems to be a problem with these kind of forums

Venatus sounds alright for now, implementing new languages into the name is a neat idea, and perhaps we could experiment with more than Latin.

For example, CivJunction in Dutch is BeschavenAansluiting.... Doesn't sound very appealing, but you get my drift. We can use several combinations of different languages in order to come up with an appealing name for this forum.
